how long to receive the receipt?

It took four months for me (in 2001). That does not mean that TSC will not open your application packet for three-four months. First things they do is to cash the check attached to the application ....and they are supposed to pur SRC number on the check. So, if the application had a personal check by you, maybe you can look at the cashed check image at you bank's website to find out your SRC number.

Welcome to 485 land in the TSC. This is the BCIS' carefully designed torture center for all intending immigrants (legal immigrants). Now that you are here you will need to get used to 2 things.
1) Endless waiting even for the simplest of applications.
2) Reliably reliable inefficiency.
If you think 2 weeks is a long time to receive a receipt notice wait until you begin to expect an approval. Your patience might get stretched to never before scaled heights!!! Some of us in this forum get utterly shocked if we see an approval within 2 years.
Anyway, this does not mean that you will have to wait that long. This being TSC you can get approved as early as within 5 months or as late as after 3 years! Good luck to you.

Thanks for all the responses. My application was filed by the company lawyer. So I don't have the case # from the back of a persona check. I didn't know it would take such a long time even to recive a receipt :-(

It took 12 days
I filed I485, EAD, AP (my wife, son and self) during March, 2003 and received notices (all at one time) promptly in 12 days. I wish you too receive them soon.
My I140s (EB1 and NIW), when I filed, I received receipt for only EB1 and its subsequent approval in three months. But for NIW, I never received any notice of action and after one year, they sent me approval directly.
