How long to physically get GC after approval

Folks,

I've been married after 2 yrs now. I got my GC first time round after interviews and fingerprints, etc. Then earlier this yr my GC expired we filed for conditions of marriage to be removed (I-751) and they came back with a receipt and ok to travel. Then 2 months later I letter saying you are approved come in with photos for new GC. I go into downtown LA (what a wait- even after making an appointment). They took the old GC the letter and photos and said it would take anywhere from 3-6 weeks for the GC to arrive. FYI - the letter said upto 6 months- but they said that was old and they have heard its about 3-4 weeks.

Is there anyway I can check to see how long this GC will take (its been 3 weeks now) ??

I said to them I needed to travel and what should I do, they said you can only travel for emergencies after a stamp in your passport. They siad bring a letter in stating the emergency and they would review it.

I really need to travel for my job (outside the US) any thoughts on how I can check and see what is the status and also how long it would take.

Any one have any thoughts for how long from LA ?

Cheers

Dav

It sounds odd.
The letter you receive after you apply for I-751 is basically a 1-year extension of your GC and therefore allows you to work and travel.

Since your I-751 was approved and you're just waiting for the actual card, you should go to the DO and they must stamp your passport.

Emergency travel permit is involved when your AOS is pending and you don't have AP.

For the same principle then you shouldn't be allowed to take employment since you don't have your green card.

I would go to the DO with I-751 approval notice, passport and maybe a letter from your employer (and air ticket) and have them stamp your passport.

This is incorrect information. They MUST give you a stamp in order to travel ---- you are entitled to all the rights, privileges and obligations of a PR.

Go back --- you probably just got the wrong person.

Well, their letter says you cannot travel until you get a passport and the woman at the office said I needed a letter in order to get a stamp in my
passport. As mentioned by someone above yes I am approved, so they should give me all this !!

I thought it weird as well. As the letter kind of states that go to the office, get submit your photos and GC(it doesn't state anything about your GC) and they will stamp your passport if you need to travel. Now it seems I need to take another day off to visit these guys, with the letter and ticket !!

FYI - the lady at the office did say I should get my new GC in about 3 wks. If not come in and get it stamped.

They ask you for photos? That is odd, I haven't heard people that removed their conditions and submitted more photos, especially since the picture in your green card is digital not from the passport style photos.

This case is interesting, they took your original receipt? uhmm. So you have nothing right now that demostrate your status?
