how long to get receipt notice of I-129?

How long is it taking just to get the receipt notice for the tn extension? I expire the end of december, would it make it back in time if I send it out now?

Also, what happens to my check if I decide to go to a POE while my I-129 is in application? And is it too late to even bother with the mail-in (without priority processing)?

it takes about a month to get a receipt notice. USCIS will cash your check regardless of what you do. If you are planning on going to the border, i suggest you do that and forget about the I-129.
