how long to get a reentry permit ?

Maybe my son will need to apply for a reentry permit. He is a GC holder but he finishes his university ( still 2 years and a half ).
So, he intends to come in the USA next christmas but I don't know if he will have time enough for a REP.
Do you have informations or an advice about it ?

It generally takes 3-6 months for the permit to be approved. However, it is not necessary to stay in the US until it is approved. It is only mandatory to be in the US when the application is filed, and for biometrics 2-4 weeks later.
