How long should 2001 I-485 applicants wait?

Hi everyone,

I filed my I-485 2.5 years ago and sent RFE to BCIS a year ago, but still wait endlessly. My attorney called the Cal Center several times since last year. But the officer kept changing the explainations about why my case is still pending. Now the officer said the center are asking the Home Land Security Office to do the Security Check on me since my name is very common.
What should I do now, if I keep waiting, how long should I wait? It is really frustrated!

How long you should wait is up to you, but I would advise you to contact your Senator's or Congressman's office. Your wait has been extremely long and they will help in expediting your case.

Ask your lawyer to get on INS's case. They need to send faxes, to instanciate an inquiry.

I called the attorney several times. It seems like he is upset about that, too. He will check our case status on monthly basis and I feel he is quitting dealing with the INS for us.
Can the Congressman speed up my case since the Home Land Security Office is doing check on me? I contact the case worker last week, but I didn't hear anything from her yet.
 
Since your name is very common as you wrote, I think name check takes a long time.
At least, the case worker at Congressional office can confirm it.

As you said the Name Check takes long time, can you give me an idea how long it will take, several weeks, several months or several years?

I really don't know.
However, one of the forum members got a reply from Congressperson, which mentioned it would take one month to one year and an half.
