How long it takes to get Receipt Notice for I-485?

Hi,

Can someone pls tell me how long it takes for the Receipt notice to come, after filing the I-485 petition?

And next is, can I travel outside US before receiving the receipt notice for I-485, given that I still have a valid H1B visa? Do I need to file for Advance Parole along with I-485, even tho' I have valid H1B?

I'm in Massachusetts.

this is a receipt tracker that I have initated for CSC
You can start one for the service center for MA
If you are on a valid H1 - then you need the receipt to reenter
I polled 4 persons who travelled after the 485 with the receipt
However, they never showed the receipt at the port of entry
They were not asked for it
However, it is better to exercise caution since one never knows when INS can create an issue

Richard, thx a lot for ur reply. Where is the law that states Receipt notice after filing I-485 should be shown at port of re-entry by a valid Hi visa-holder who is travelling outside US who has I-485 filed and pending?

I read the www.ins.usdoj.gov website thoroughly, nowhere it writes that a valid H1 visa-holder requires a receipt notice for I-485 for travelling outside US when AOS is pending. Could anyone pls give a link where there's a clarification reg this?
