How long is it taking for Name Check these days ?

I know people have been waiting for more than year sometimes for Name Check. I just now found out that USCIS sent my Name Check request on Mar 12, 2005. I don't know what took them so long to send the FBI check especially since my FP was completed in early Oct 2004.

485 RD - Apr 2003
140 AD - Feb 2004
FP1 - Oct 2004
EAD3 - Mar 2005
AP3 - Feb 2005
 
In the Last Quarter of 2002 and First Quarter of 2003, there was no system to track whether the name check was sent to FBI or not and lots of unfortunate cases got stuck in that loop and by God's grace, we are able to get out of it.

Anyhow, now that they have sent your name to FBI, assuming that your name is clean, then FBI should clear it in a Day and the results will be reached by another 3 or 4 weeks from the day it is cleared. And for some reason, if your name check gets a HIT, then it will again depend on the FBI Analyst to work on your name to clear it. You should wait for another week or so and contact USCIS and see if they received your name check from FBI. If it is still pending then I will assume that it got a HIT and you should work with FBI in getting it cleared sooner. Good Luck!

Did you called USCIS or any other # to make sure about name check.
I am also in the same boat.

Thanks needhelp1 for the useful info. I will try to followup by month end to find out details. Also I had sent an email to FBI in end Dec 2004. I should be getting a reply from them shortly and that would help me in deciding who to followup with next.

lx_kumar - I called the 800 # to find out about my status as its almost a year beyond my dates that VSC is processing. The lady told me that its waiting for background check. When I asked when did they send it, she said that on Mar 12, 2005. She also said that it takes about 30-45 days to adjudicate the application after receiving the clearance.
