How long is doctor clearance valid?

I just got an appointment with a Civil Surgeon for next week, but may not file I-485 for 6-8 months. May wait for I-140 approval prior to filing. Is there a disadvantage to doing that (does medical clearance expire after a certain time period?)

Thanks in advance for any insight!

Hi

Triangleboy -

The results of your medical exam are valid for one year from the date on which the Civil Surgeon signs the form. Once you file for I-485, the results of your medical exam become valid forever. But, I believe your fingerprinting is only vaild for 15 months. Given that it is taking around 20 months for BCIS to adjudicate I-485, many of us have to get a second fingerprinting done.

Is there a reason as to why you are not going to concurrently file for I-140 and I-485? Personally, I do not think you should waste any time in filing for your forms because of a long wait in getting I-485 adjudicated. Besides, assuming that you have a valid H1-b visa, you can still travel on that visa while your paperwork is being reviewed by BCIS. You do not need to apply for Advance Parole.

Hope this helps.
