How long for name checking to be cleared?

I just got a mail from local congressman's office about my 485 inquiry. I have a few questions

1. what's this name checking all about?
2. How long does it normally take to get cleared?
3. Can I call FBI to find it out? If so, what's the number?

I guess the name checking for my case started in Feb or March 2004 (RFE ack on 3/2004), it's more than 5 months now. I just did my 2nd FP in July. Are they going to do name checking whenever you take FP?

We are on the thsame boat

My case ND/RD 1/18/02;REF sent to me on 02/06/04 and REF ACK on 02/27/04; I got information from my attorny said that they are doing secuity check. Senator inquiry is made about two week ago. No anything is back to me yet. Please keep post and see what is going on?
