How long does it take to receive a passport???

Anybody, who have already received a US passport, please share how long you had to wait... I am trying to decide whether to expedite or not if I plan on leaving the country right before Christmas. Does it really take 6 weeks to receive a passport (without expediting) or in reality they do it faster than that?

Generally takes much lesser than 6 weeks, even without expedite.

they say 6 weeks because that is just an average

it could be longer

it could be shorter.

To get mine it took a little more than two months.

Just to be on the safe side I would request it to be expedited.
 
Remember that holiday season is coming up. So you may want to put in an urgent request.

I just sent my youngest daughter's application with urgent fees. Don't wanna take a chance, have to go overseas on vacation with family. Total cost is $168, including everything for minors. Adutls, I think its an additional $15-25.
 
Remember to pay for overnight shipping (both ways) to get your US Pass in 3 days. If you dont overnight it will take about 1.5 weeks (expedited).. Non expedited might be over 2 weeks. The Boston Passport office is very very efficient..

If you have upcoming travel you can get your passport the same day by visiting your Regional Passport Office (after taking an appointment)

His application will be sent to Philly office and not Boston (he does not live in Vermont :D ). So if you live in Philly suburbs you dont need to spend another $25 - $30 on shipping. I got it in 4 business days w/o overnight shipping.
