HI, my sister needs an unrestricted ssn card and she has to start a job on monday. The stupid her never renewed her ssn card...Anyone know how long does it take to get an unrestricted card? I am sorry if this has been answered before?

Is it 2-3 weeks? It would kill her if that happens..any experience??

Firstly an SS card is NOT a requirement to begin employment. One can prove employment eligibility with other documents, i.e. EAD, green card, etc.
What is your sister's status ( Citizen, green card holder, any other visa status)?

Dont want to sound rude but If i am on political asylum board, wouldn't I be talking about Asylees/Refugees? :)...She is an asylee! She has an I-94 but it doesn't say employment authorized...It says asylum granted etc...

Many people post questions unrelated to the forum topic.
Granting asylum is in itself employment authorization. Asylees don't really need another work authorization document.

Well the employer want wahts listed on I-9.....right? NOthing else is accepted I think.

yes and SS card is NOT an absolute requirement. An Asylee can prove work authorization by presenting a photo ID and the document proving grant of asylum. It can be an I-94 attached to a passport.

But the I-94 doesnt say "employment authorized." They didn't use to say that..they just started to do that..3 years ago i think. On i-9 it says , "i-94 indicating employment authorized"

They will try to confirm her asylee status on the computer. If that is successful, the card should be issued in about one week.

If the computer does not confirm her status, they have to send a letter to the CIS and wait for a response. That will take a few weeks at least.

Yes, employer is unlikely to accept such an I-94. What took her so long to arrange for a social security card??

When I had mine last year it took me 2 weeks. They had to check with the INS for my status.I live in northern california.
Hope it will help

Well she used to work part-time and showed an unexpried refugee travel document and that had worked..but her RTD hasn't arrived yet and she is to start a professional job..All i can say is..todays youngers are lazy as hell..not that i am an old man(27) but man i told her to get her unrestricted ssn card 2 years ago and now she wakes up...women!
