How long does it take to get a GC after application?

My and USC gf are getting married soon and soon will start to apply for a green card. I was wondering on how long this process can take? Both of us have graduate education. What is the minimum and max timelines? who would get a higher priority in GC application? I need to get GC soon because i will have to apply to professional schools and some of them are not so nice to the internationals . Is there higher priority applications?

Look at the posts in the forum. Some people got it pretty fast (like me, took only 6 months), some are waiting for years (stuck in the name check). There are no real time frames, and no guarantees with the CIS. And no, there are no priorities. Well, there are actually, if you have some life threatening situation, or something like that. But it's really rare when CIS agrees to process the application faster then the others sent before yours.

there aren't any priorities based on nationality/age/education level etc. it just depends on your DO, as in how busy it gets. however, some ppl have gotten it quickly through busy DO's and some have gotten it after years when their DO was that heavily backlogged.
also, sometimes if something is missing in your application they will ask for more evidence and this tends to delay the application. so it depends on a lot of variables.
maybe you can ask you school what incentives are there for 'ppl who are pending adjustment of status' which is what you will be after you start your application process. anyways, good luck.
