How long does it take to get a British visa? - off topic

Sorry for posting an off topic post. But this is the only place I could turn to. Does anybody have experience of applying for a visitors visa to United Kingdom? How long does it typically take? I applied online and sent the supporting docs about a week ago. Haven't heard anything yet.

Please post any experiences. Would appreciate any input.
 
My boyfriend and I applied UK visa twice online (not at the same time). Most time we got it about one week after sending out the documents. I think Britishes are more efficient than Americans. Wait some days and you will get it. We may also track it online from their web site.

One thing to mention, they send the passport by FeDex. It is a package without your signature. The deliver man just put the envelope outside my door. I was a little worried what would happen if some bad guy pick up my passport.

Thanks. I guess I just need to wait a few more days. I sent the documentation to them (they got it) last Wed and the online message still says "No tracking number assigned". I guess they haven't sent it yet. I hope they send it fast as my travel date is fast approaching!
 
Samansa is right. I applied two times by FedEx and rcvd in 3 days. Once they did mess up and put 2 years visa instead of 5 years and I had to re send it again which was taken care of very efficiently and a 5 year stamp was pasted.

From this link find the appropriate consulate depending on the area of jurisdiction.

The length of visa is on request. If you have never been there you may get only for 6 months at the first time. Then you can apply for a year, two, five etc.

I got a five year last time


Payment again is on the type and duration of VISA. Check the website
