Hi all,
I am in the process of filing I485/EAD/AP for me and my wife.I have sent all the documents to the lawyer's office ten days ago. They told me that it takes two weeks for them to create the draft forms and send it to me.After that it will take a week or more for them to file with the INS center.
Just wondering what's the normal timeframe in which the lawyers file the I485 from the time they received the documents.
Can u please kindly inform me.I this normal or it's just that they are overloaded with work?

about week or so...

once the lawyers have reviewed the application they file it instantaly....say about 1 week or so...give or take 1-2 days...

hi mygcwaiter100

Hi mygcwaiter100,
What do you mean by 'after the lawyers reviewed the application'.
They need to create the applications first right? Then they need to send it to us for signature? So my question i how long does it take for them to fill the documents?Do they need a letter from my company etc.,
I know it's kind a silly question and depends on each lawyer. But want to get a general idea.

hi PrasadS and chinacat

Thanks for your info.
PrasadS,
It seems that three months were a bit long time i think.Did you find out why they took that long?Did you follow up with them at all?If the lawyer itself took three months, then we can't expect INS to approve the application in less than a year. Not to mention the fact that we have a choice with the lawyer but not with INS :)
If you're waiting for your i140 approval(before concurrent law) and then if the lawyer took his own time,i guess it should be fine.

chinacat,
I am expecting my lawyer would take the same time to file.2 - 3 weeks is a more average time frame i guess.

depend on lawyer to lawyer and how good are the paraleagal person under him. Normally its simple form and u need photocopies etc and 2 days are more then enough to prepare to send it you for signature and once they get back they can file instantly.whole process of filing should not take more then 5/7 day or else ur lawyer is swamped with work / does't work / ur case is not on his priorty list.

I think it depends on both the applicant and attorney. In my case
over all process took 5 weeks. That starting from receiveing allthe forms filling it up, medical etc and sending it to them..then receive the draft for correction and mailing to INS. They lost one week for not requesting the checks for my spouse in the begining.

I will say over all 3-4 weeks for the whole process is OK.

Hi ghost_rider,
I agree.I saw the forms in the ins website and they are pretty simple. Also the lawyers send their own forms for us to fill, which we filled and sent along with the other documents. So it's mostly a matter of just reading and typing the forms.
But in my case,
I have 6 forms to be filled.485/EAD/AP(both mine and wife)
Also we need to understand that they are also running a business and can't expect them to start filling the forms as soon as they receive the forms.
You are certainly lucky if they file the application in 5 days and call yourself a lucky chap.
2 - 3 weeks:- average and practical
more than that:-you have reasons to be pissed off :)
