how long does it take for passport stamping interview after 485 approval in CSC

Hi Guys,

Could someone please advise on the "typical" time INS gives
you to appear for your scheduled passport stamping meeting
after your 485 is adjudicated? I need to be out of the country
for 3 weeks (on AP beginning 1/16), and my lawyer tells me that once 485 gets approved (which currently looks a long shot!), I need to get back to the US within 2 days (which definitely sounds bullshit to me).

Anyone heard of any experience trying to reschedule your
passport stamping interview at the INS office (if so whatz the
procedure?).

Thanks to all you out there with super tracking tools, info and
the support you are providing to everyone.
Hoping for INS to pick up speed!

If your 485 is approved then its upto you , if you want you can get it stamp otherwise it is not required. Unless and until INS explicitly ask to visit INS to get it stamp. Normally if you receive any letter to visit INS then you can always reschedule it but it is not advisable.

But it is not clear if your 485 has been approved or not?
Are you waiting to receive a letter from local INS for interview?
Did your 485 was transferred to local INS ?

But one thing is sure that your lawyer is not saying good words or he meant something else.

Details of my case (similar to hundreds of you out there !)

Status: I-485 pending @CSC
RD: 11/26/01
WAC: 02-050-xxxxx

AP renewed last week for travel outside the US (intended 1/16
through 2/5)

I've heard that INS specifies a passport stamping date once
the 485 approval notice has been mailed, but the applicant
may go to the designated INS office (San Jose, in my case)
any time *on or before* that date to do the necessary
stamping.

What if -

the applicant is unable to show up at the INS office for stamping
on or before the designated date (for whatever reason - sick,
out-of-country, dog-ate-my-approval-notice etc.)

there's got to be a way to ask INS for rescheduling the passport
stamping date, right?

I would like to know the procedure for the same.

Thanks again to all of you who continue to help me and others like me.

cheers,

-shibsen.
