How long can they hold your passport on 221g blue admin. processing?

Hi,

My B2 application is pending since Feb11, they took my passport. How long can they hold your passport on 221g blue admin. processing? I wonder if they intend to process for months would they still take my passport? Is taking a passport indication of faster processing? Frustrated...
 
They say you can request your Passport back if you need to travel and they will notify you once AP is processed and then you send it back to them but the people that did that in the past people have experienced that then they never get back to you, this is specially true for Nonimmigrant visas.
AP can take anywhere from few days to even few years.
When they take your Passport it merely indicates that the Consular officer is satisfied in issuing a visa pending AP.
