Hello, I am a US citizen. I petitioned for my parents (from Syria) and brought them to stay with me in the US. They recently arrived here after obtaining their immigrant visa IR5 and they should be receiving their green cards shortly.
My parents are about to retire and want to be able to spend equal times between the US and Syria. I know that they can stay for up to 6 months abroad. But for the following couple of years, they may need to stay for periods longer than 6 months (up to 1 year) in Syria. My dad needs to finish some work and my mom needs to be around my 19 year-old brother until he graduates from high school next summer. What can we do to minimize the risk of losing their permanent resident status?
