Hi All,

I am a 2008 DV winner. I entered the US from the Atlanta port on 8/24/08. i have not received my green card yet. i have called USCIS and they told me that they have not received any information from border patrol yet. i was told to go to a local immigration office, which i did and they did not have any info on my card. i called the atlanta airport border patrol and they said that it takes them 6 to 9 months. i asked them if that was always the case and they said yes- it always takes that long. that does not sound right. if you do the math, you can enter the states upto 6 months from the date when the green card is approved. the visa is valid for one year so if border patrol takes up to 9 months, wont your visa expire before you receive your green card?

anyhow, i just wanted to see if you guys could provide me any advise on what to do. i dont know if a lawyer is warranted at this point or what?

thanks in advance.

i have received nothing from USCIS. I guess the process is- the border patrol at the port of entry has to review the GC package that my embassy at home sends with me and border patrol forwards that package over to USCIS who then send out the welcome letter and finally the green card.

i am worried. i dont even know what other offices to call. would KCC be able to help at this time?

i know of another person that has the same issue, came in about 4 months ago and has not received anything yet.

thanks in advance

KCC has nothing so do woth yur case at this time. Normally you should have the welcome letter, that is pretty strange. I got mine after two weeks.

My brother arrived in Washington Dulles Airport on January 20,2009.He got his welcome letter and Green card on February 10,2009.You better check the address you put as the mailing address for receiving your green card, you can set up an appointment to your local office, they will tell you the exact address where you suppose to receive your card, your card is long overdue

How should this help? USCIS has told him that they have not received any information.

i have my card

I arrived on Feb 7, 2009 at JFK later connected to Atlanta and recieved my green card and two(i dnt know why) welcome letters with similar information today March 3 2009 am sure it arrived earlier but i delayed picking it. May b this shud help you get the timeline

thanks for the info.

i have a feeling that my paperwork in misplaced.
i have called the border patrol atlanta (port of entry) and i was told that it takes them 6-9 months to process the paperwork. i checked with jfk, their time line they said is 3-6 months. there is a disripancy. i called the cbp headquarters in DC and was told that the longest time they hold on to the package could be a week to two (since they send it over in batches).

i have visited the local USCIS office three times. first time a month after i entered the states, they said there is no info on me on their database (this was after USCIS customer service phone help line looked up my info based on the control number on the passport visa stamp. uscis field office told me that they could not look it up and told me to contact the local CBP. i left the local CBP a couple of messages with no response.

second visit. the uscis officer told me that they had to request for my package from National Records Center--> NRC is not the route these packages go. i told him so and he insisted that he could not do anything without the package he receives from NRC. i could not do anything else. i was advised to come back in a week. i went back in a week, --> to my surprise NRC did not have anything they could send over. third visit was with another officer who said that the only thing she could do was to email the texas immig. center and have them contact atlanta to track the package.

my package is obviously missing and i am worried that it might get into wrong hands, there is sensitive information in it but USCIS staff seemed least concerned. she took my phone number and said she would call me once she hears back from texas. ( her or i have no clue on the timeline)

someone messed up and is not owning it.

i am out of ideas guys please help

congressman?

uscis chiefs?

obama? :D

Hello my friend,

Congradu for coming to US and being among us. As for my case I recieved my GC three-four weeks after my entery through Los Angeles airport. However, it was mentioned in my welcome letter and also I was notified during my interview that GC could take up to 9months to be mailed to me. So, do not worry sometimes some offices and their workers could be loaded with tons of papers to take care of. Also, since you have your label in your passport wich shows you are permanent resident and also the fact that you have a valid SSN all are enough for you. GC will be improtant for you if you want to travel out of US and come back before or after 6 months.

By the way the only office you need to deal with from now on is the USCIS.

Do not worry you will recieve your GC sooner or later.
