How long after marriage should we apply?

My fiance will be coming back to America on a H2B visa to work out a year contract for a company that travels from state to state. His first stop will be here in Texas and so will his last stop. My question is should we marry as soon as he gets here or right before his contract is up (when he has more time)? I'm worried that if we marry later and feel out the immigration paper work immediately we won't have enough proof of our marriage for our interview. Does it matter how long your married before you apply?

We are also applying in Texas and we want to know if we should apply a month or 2 before his contract is up so the process can already be underway and we won't have to wait longer until he is allowed to work legally. If we wait until his contract is fully up and apply how long will it take until he's allowed to get a job here?

Does anyone know how long the process takes when applying in Texas (on average)

The longer you're married and the more evidence you can accumulate, the better your chances in the interview. Some people apply immediately after getting married because the immigrant spouse's legal status has already expired or is almost expired, resulting in them applying with very little evidence. You're not in a situation where you have to rush like that, so take some months to build up your evidence before applying.

The employment authorization aspect of the green card process takes about 2-3 months to be approved, so make sure to apply no later than 3 months before his existing visa runs out.

Aren't you asking essentially the same questions and/or follow ups to questions you asked in previous posts? It will be more beneficial to all concerned including yourself if you kept the related questions you have in one post so those giving advise can view your whole application holistically.

Also cuts down the number of unnecessary threads ;)

Thank you so much. If his visa expires before we apply. Would that cause problems. The thing I hate about his job is even though he comes back to Texas towards the end of his contract they will ship him all over to Dallas, San Antonio, Corpus and everywhere in between. And they never tell him where he's going next until they are in route to that destination. They also don't have set days off, they'll just call them in the morning and tell them not to come in if they don't need them. Which rarely happens. So I would hate to apply and we're asked to come in to the Dallas office (where I live) and he's in Loredo, Tx. & his job won't let him leave.

Once the adjustment paperwork is filed, the fingerprinting notice will be delivered about 2-5 weeks after applying, and the interview should be about 3-6 months after applying.

Fingerprinting can be done at a USCIS office in any city. The notice will give an appointment date about 1-3 weeks in the future, but the fingerprinting can be done as a walk-in any time before the listed appointment date, so he will have a variety of choices for the place and time of fingerprinting.

If you apply 3 months before his contract ends, the interview will almost surely be after the end of the contract. Even if the interview date comes unexpectedly fast and there's still a few days left on the contract, so what? If they fire him because he goes to the interview, it doesn't really matter because the contract is almost done anyway.
