How long a delay for stamping?

We need to visit home from April to August this year and am wondering what happens if our I-485 is approved right after we leave.

Can we put off stamping (for four months from April to August) until we come back?

There is no timeframe or deadline for stamping. However, if you stay abroad too long after approval (for example, more than 6 months) it can create trouble for you - because your perm residency starts from the day of approval.

Secondly (and most importantly), assuming your GC is employment-based, staying too long abroad can raise question about employment status too (hence the validity of GC).
