How late can we leave for US after getting a visit visa?

I'm planning on inviting my parents for a visit to US. However, one of them cannot come here until the end of this year. Can we apply for visa and now and travel in december? In other words, how late can we fly to US after getting the visit visa? Does anyone know? Thanks.

They can fly into the US any time until the date of visa expiration.
