How immigration knows that someone claims to be us citizen?
I saw an article on washington post couple weeks, where they denied a lady because somewhere she claimed to be us citizen.

The Citizenship and Immigration Service has records of weather you are a Citizen or legal Immigrant!

If you falsely claim you are a Citizen , to say a federal agency and answered NO to the pertinent question in the N400, then CIS might know as they might have gotten an inquiry on that claim ! Or if you read a news article I posted a while back, the feds may sometimes be doing a complete investigation on you (thinking you have something to do with terrorism etc) and a lof of your skeletons will fall off the closet :-)

Hi bamako,

Could you pls tell me in detail what the incident was when the lady got denied b/w she calimed to be the US citizen.

The reason I'm asking this is that my interview is coming up in a couple of months. And I have this issue, I signed for voter registertion card unknowly and by mistake at the DMV office, I was there to get my state ID.
And apprently signed everything w/out reading what the clerk was making me sign, and as it turned out I signed voter registration form which had at the bottom, in small prints, that by signing this form one is caliming to be the US citizen.

Although I cancelled my voter registration card later, but still damage had been done. I consultated atleast 4 attornays on this issue. half of them said that my case is hopeless , half said it could be done. other than that I have heard atleast 2 cases where ppl were registered for voter registratin card(don;t know the detail though, how they got registrated), and they had been granted citizenship.

Any input on this situtation is highly appreciated.

Thanks

I think, she applied for federal job, then she checked yes for us citizen.
She was from Pastkitan, and then traveled there, due to 9/11, immigration digged into her case. According to washington post,it was mostly 9/11 and her religion (muslim) were reason for her trouble.

I do know a guy, who got caught during interview for same thing, he got his citizenship, I think it was after 9/11. I am not sure if he chose yes or no on N 400, officer has him about choosing yes on a job application at federal agency, he did get his citizenship.

Yes, falsely claiming to be a USC is a very bad thing. I've had to change things on a form (at a DMV) crossing out that check mark that the clerk helpfully added for me. I've also had several people harrass me, trying to convince me that I should register to vote and not taking "I'm not a US citizen" as an excuse.

Be very careful of what you sign (everything you sign) all the time. Read all that crap they hand you before you sign at the bottom.
