How early can I go for my H1B VISA stamp?

My current VISA stamp expires on June 9th 2005. My new petition starts on June 10th 2005. When is the earliest I can go for my VISA stamping. Someone told me that I could not go more than 10 days before my VISA stamp expired. I currently have an appt. at the vancouver consulate on May 20th. Will they issue me a VISA stamp then? Does anyone have any experience in getting a VISA stamp before 10 days of current VISA expiry (or new petition start date)?

I'm in the same situation as yours, My Visa stamp is expiring in Aug, and since I'm already visiting Canada next month so I thought I might try renewing my visa as well. As I've also herad abt this 10 days rule ,I called US consulate at Toronto, they said that there used to be a section that says that new visa cannot be issued 10 days prior to the old one expiring, but the lady at the consulate visa line couldn't find that law anymore. So she said that she thinks that they removed/changed it, but again she didn't give me any definite answer, only said that she doesn't have anything in written regarding the timeline on which new visa can be applied.

So my suggestion to you, call the conuslate at their 900 number, and ask them abt this law,and if you'd get a definte answer, would you mind sharing that info with me as well?
