How early can I apply for EAD renewal?

In worst case you will not eligible for interim EAD, because of RFE. Apply six months in advance!

Kashmir, friend of mine got RFE for wife's EAD after e-filing. USCIS have requested copy of marriage certificate and copy of I-140. I don't know how e-filing works, perhaps one have to send supporting documents after e-filing.

Thanks, Tasse.
Actually, I e-Filed I-765 for my wife's EAD renewal last year.
In my understanding, USCIS had specified the list of documents that I had to send,
so I thought that USCIS never issued RFE for e-Filing,
but I seemed wrong.

kashmir, when I applied without e-filing I also got RFE for me about I-140 and for my wife regarding marriage certificate and my I-140. I-765 application doesn't mention that one have to send marriage certificate or I-140.
As usuall INS/BCIS/USCIS wastes resources revisiting issues already resolved and harassing petitioners with requests for paperwork unrelated to their eligibility.

Tasse,

Even if RFE'ed as long as you reply to the RFE ASAP, and the case shows up as RFE received you can still go for iEAD.

I think 4 months is a good timeline to apply for renewal just because of the above reason, as well as the fact that in some cases INS issues EAD's which overlap pre-existing EAD's in which case you might be applying for an EAD every 5-6 months. And that works out to be a little too expensive, even if your company pays for it.
