Hi gurus,

I am using my EAD (expires 5/4/05) to work. What is the earliest time can I apply for a renewal at VSC? The employer would terminate my job if I can't obtain my EAD before it expires. Thanks for your time.

If I'm right, 100 days

From what I read in the other posts, it might make sense to apply something like 100 days before u'r current EAD expires. That way, if you don't get the EAD in 90 days, u will have around 10 days to go to the USCIS office and get an Interim EAD card. You should be able to get the Interim EAD card the same day you go to the USCIS office.

The current stats show that VSC is not taking much time in processing EAD (765) applications. For example, as of sept 22 2004, they were processing sep 13 2004 cases. But, you never know. We cannot guess how VSC operates.

I think what HellFire suggests makes sense. Applying 100 days before your expiry date should keep you safe.

Good luck.

Now they are doing it quite fast.
My wife has received her card in 1 month after applying online

July 19 is RD and August 20 is approval

For me it took 5 monhs .. I applied in Jan and got EAD in June

Beware that of late they have been renewing EADs that are not back-to-back. In other words if your previous EAD expires in December 2004 and you applied for renewal in August 2004 and say they approve it in September 2004, the new EAD will be issued from September 2004 to September 2005!!! So essentially you lost 3 months of the previous EAD time. This happenned to me. So if you apply too early they get you, if you apply too late, they get you!!!

Joyd is right - the same happened to me as well. I ended up losing about 3 months. However, given the uncertainty about the processing time, it's best to apply with atleast 3 months left on the EAD - if you lose 3 months, so be it.

Somehow it is very fast for getting a EAD card from VSC, at least for my case and many other cases I saw in this forum.

My EAD will be expired in Nov this year. I applied in Aug. It took less than a month to get it. (paper application, not online). So I lost about 2 months.

Besides, if you don't get one after 90 days, you can get a interim card, right?
