How does a divorce affect a green card?

My husband has recently informed me that he wants a divorce. The only reason I came to the US was because of him, so if I go back to Canada will my green card still be good? Can I reside and work in Canada without it affecting my card? How does this all work?

No, you're not allowed to reside and work in Canada on a long-term basis and keep your green card.

If you're going to move back to Canada permanently, you should officially surrender your green card at a US consulate or the border with form I-407. Otherwise you will remain liable for filing US tax returns on your Canadian income, and may have trouble when attempting to visit the US in the future.
