How do we know if fingerprinting cleared

I got my fingerprinting done last week.. how do we know if it got cleared/passed. Does INS notify you? and/or the online status get updated?

No, INS (actually USCIS) does not notify you and I don't believe in the online status as my case has never shown up there although my interview is coming up in a few weeks.

The fingerprints are transmitted electronically to the FBI right after they are scanned so they receive them the same day. The FBI also processes it automatically - i.e. a computer tries to match your prints with their database. If there is a match or a possible resemblence it is flagged and some human will look at it which will cause some delay; else your prints should be cleared right away.

Someone had posted a while back on this forum that you could call the FBI and find out. I tried calling my local field office (I didn't know where else to call) and they had no idea. You typically can't find a phone number for your local D.O. so that's not much help and I doubt if it's worth getting an InfoPass. So I just let it pass and a few weeks later got my interview notice.

you cant do much about fp...usually desi's get through without a problem as long as your history is clean(name check)and the fbi number is of no use....
