How do they process I-485 ?

I filed my I-485 in March 2000, After a couple of weeks they moved the priority date back to 97. My priority date in aug 99. Will they still look at my priority date for processing I-485? I haven\'t got my finger prints yet? How does this whole process occur?

If you filed your I-485 while your Priority date was still current, they you just got lucky with several other folks at that time. The INS centers will process your case normally based on the order it was received ( receipt date - RD).
After I485 is filed while PD is current, the PD is no longer relevant after that.

My wife filed her I-485 during oct 99 when her priority date for india EB3 was current,but now its moved back to 1997, Is her I485 still gets processed or INS will wait for the Pd to become current...

I was under the impression that since the PD went back I thought they have kept the appln. for pending.....

Actually, that is not correct. You can file your 485 if the PD becomes or is current. However, if the PD later regresses, then the file is put on a shelf and not approved till the PD becomes current again.
This will not affect your EAD or AP. INS may even send you the FP notice. However, till the PD become current final approval of the AOS will not get done.

Can anyone tell how much time it takes for the EAD once the application is filed along with 485. Some of my friends got it in three weeks from nebraska/
