How do I go about moving to USA (newbie question perhas)

Hey all. It's been my lifelong dream to move to the USA and I'm 100 % positive that's it, that's what I want and always have wanted. Well, I figure that the time has come to walk the walk...or at least look into it. So, in these times, how do I go about it? Obviously, the time we're living in isn't so great, the economy is in a bad state all over the world and USA as well and from what I can notice, the USA immigration laws are pretty drastic so it's pretty hard. Well, be that as it may, I won't quit. I know there have got to be ways, I just don't know them yet.
Since I'm planning to go to college here where I live (Croatia) next year, I'm wondering is the best way to go about it to get really great at my job and look for a job in the USA? Or are the more ways?
It's always been a dream but I never looked into how to actually do it and the time for that is now. All I know is that it's not going to be easy and it's going to be a project that's probably going to take years. But anyway, I'm just wondering if someone can give me some suggestions and introduce me to some steps and methods that are good to take for someone in my sitation. What are all the ways to go about this? Thx.

you could try a student-visa and go to grad school here? I met people in college classes where it was literally their first day in the states. You may also need a work visa if the costs of college is high. Goodluck hope that helps (it probably doesn't)
