Hi,

Can somebody suggest a good time in the day to contact an IIO at VSC. I have tried numerous times between 1-4 p.m. EST and I always get a busy tone. I live on the west coast.

Also, my EAC no. is not available when I check on the AVM though I have received my I-485 receipt, EAD and AP.

You keep trying for at least half an hour , continuous redial and you will get through once.

Hi Z8,

You had mentioned that your EAC# was not avaiable on the AVM. Is that still the case? Or have you had better luck since then?

Please carefully reconsider calling an IIO based upon the following experience I had in the last three weeks:

My wife\'s redo notice took 15 days (March 23) after the first appointment (March 8). This second notice scheduled her to do her second fingerprints exactly 23 days (March 31) after she did her first fingerprints.

The FBI confirmed today (April 2) that her record, based upon her second fingerprints, was forwarded to INS. Incidentally, the FBI will only confirm processing and forwarding to INS, and will no longer even indicate whether the fingerprints were readable or not - upon hearing from the FBI that their first sets failed, probably too many people were trying to use first notice photocopies or something to get their second prints done earlier and wasting a lot of time for everyone on both sides of the counter.

I deduce from this that the additional tightening of information proffered by the FBI is the direct result of impatient applicants bothering INS fingerprint centers without the required official second notices. (I called my lawyer and was informed that INS will also not reveal the nature of any records, only that the FBI has forwarded the results of fingerprint searches.)

Clearly, we should not bother the INS folks on fingerprint matters, or any other matter prior to the expected processing duration as indicated on our I-485 notifications. If the notification indicates 500 days, and someone reports they received their I-551 in 100 days - congratulate them, but leave INS alone. After all, 500 days is both an estimate and an average. By all means, if your notice indicates 500 days and you\'re been waiting more than 500, you or your lawyer should call immediately!

So, we really can help ourselves to reduce the long wait if we all just stop bothering the overloaded INS with constant useless time-consuming status inquiries and let them get on to adjudicating our cases sooner.

My response may not be what you expected, but as an eager waiter in the same boat as you, I needed to address this important issue.

Cordially,

SJJ

But, IIOs are not adjudicating officers, so calling them should not put additional burden on the officers. True, one could argue that given less number of calls, the need for IIOs will reduce, so INS could hire and train more officers.
