How did you sign?

My interview will be on June 4th (next weeK), I have a question to those who passed the interview and signed their photos and application form, (and certificate), did you sign it with your full name including full middle name? I have a long name, middle name and family name and I don't usually sign my name in full, I wonder if it is acceptable?

How did you all sign the photo, N-400 and Naturalization Certificate?

You'll find that people have different experiences, my advice would be to ask the IO during interview. They usually give you the chance to practice in a piece of paper before you sign on the photo. In the past it used to be full name (as it will show on the certificate) on cursive. I think there was a memo that let people sign their usual signature. Again, as different IOs might have different way of doing things it is better to follow their instructions, or make mention of the memo.

At the Chicago DO I was told to "sign" by printing my name on the N400 as well as on the photographs. The IO gave me a felt pen for signing on the photographs.

My photograph already had my signature from the interview. So I only had to sign in one place on the certificate.

I signed original N-400 with my standard, cheque signing, signature (not full names). At each stage I asked IO, and each time they said to use the same signature, my standard sig. My impression at the time was that they were looking for the signature to be consistent across all signings, once you started doing it one way, you should carry on that way for the next steps.

So..... I used my normal sig on N-400, the photos at interview and on the naturalization certificate. Got passport ok, and signed that the same as well.

As per this USCIS memo from last year http://www.tomesparza.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/newusciscitizenshipprocedures.pdf the photo and certificate signature should be your everyday signature regardless of how it appears.

At my interview last week the IO told me to sign my photos with my everyday signature but to sign my whole name on the application.

I was asked to sign in 'cursive' my spouse was asked to 'print' her name ...

At my ceremony we were given a handout explaining that the certificate should be signed with the full name in cursive, and instructed by the USCIS officer to use our normal cheque writing signature, which is what I had also put on the photos at the interview.

Thank you for answering my concern. Based on all of the answers I received, looks like there's no standard that's being followed when signing the photo, N-400 and Certificate and the best thing to do is just to ask the IO.

dms1, thank you for the link you provided.
