How can one know that he/she is stuck in name check

Hello, It's been almost 7 months since INS received a response to my 1-140 RFE. Now, I am beginning to get worried - something is wrong. Cna anyone suggest what might be the reason for this delay. Also how can one know if he/she are stuck in name check? What does this thing means?

Thanks

Stuck in name check just means that your name matched another name in the FBI criminal database through the automatic name checking procedure. That means that the FBI now has to look into your case manually, which can take a very long time, several months to several years. If your name has NOT been cleared by the FBI within a couple of months, even a couple of weeks, of the I-485 receipt date, you may be stuck. Read the "stuck in name check" thread for more.

Thanks immiq and bjorn for your input. But how can one know if he/she are stuck in name check? Will there be a case status change online - some kind of notification...?

By calling the USCIS 1800 number and ask if your name has been cleared yet. The USCIS can tell you "yes" or "no." If the answer is "no," the situation becomes much more difficult in terms of finding out why.

No way to know the truth. If the USCIS replied “No” (rarely heard they give a “Yes” answer), it may be not true “no”. The USCIS never admits the delay is due to the USCIS itself. It has become a standard answer for the USCIS to respond to the outside inquiry - the pending is due to the name/security check. Unfortunately, more and more people have being fooled by the USCIS.
