My wife has a green card and staying in india from March 2004. Now she wants to extend her stay more than six months. I would like to know how can she extend her stay more than six months from India.
She does not have to do anything. As long as she comes back to the US within a year, she may not have problems. She better come back in a year, or else she will not be allowed entry back to the US without a Re-entry permit.
She may be questioned about the reason for staying away for so long. As long as she can prove that stay was temporary and she is coming back to join her husband, there should not be any problem, other than proving it to the officer at POE.
Has this rule been changed recently beceuse I am hearing differently, that she can not stay more than six months with out re-entry permit. I am in a confused state, Please advice me. Any help you guys offer is greatly appreciated.

It is 1 year, not 6 months. But after 6 months she will have to demonstrate that she has not abandoned US as her residence and that she will not be a public charge.
How can she demonstrate that she has not abandoned US as her residence and that she will not be a public charge. Please advice me. Any help you guys offer is greatly appreciated.
