How can i change my status to F1 from B1/B2 ?

Hi friends,
I came to US on a B1/B2 category and wishing to pursue a MS program now. I have not disclosed any intention of studying over here at POE. So how can I change my visa status from B to F1 ? Can I change my status here itself or I will have to go to my home country and get it stamped there and come back ? Which is the best option ? I have not yet applied to any college but i am plannig to do so.
 
You can do either one. You can go back to your country and apply for the F1 visa after you get accepted to the university and get the I-20, or you can stay here and apply for a change of status using the I-539 form. You just need to be with your b1/b2 status the whole time, so if you are thinking in doing that and still have more than two months left for the I-94 to expire you can do it. I think that you may have 30 more days after the I-94 expires, but that's it. Talk to a lawyer if you want.
After you apply the response can take several months, so you need to do it ahead of time.
