How are there so many winners from other countries and very few from some?

I was looking at results for the past 3 years and it seems there are so many winners from west african countries and east african - mainly Nigeria and Ethiopia for example , and other places like bangladesh etc with around 5000 winners or more?
It is because more people from those countries apply than anywhere else?
I read that up to 7% visas are available for each country. It would be nice if equal numbers where available for each country since it's a "diversity visa"

Brother there is nothing you can do about it, rather you better live with it, and of course we do not have control over it.

Brother there is nothing you can do about it, rather you better live with it, and of course we do not have control over it.
 
Lol, I'm not a brother I'm female. But I get what you're saying - I can't do anything about it but trying to understand why the numbers are not equal for each country or at least by % of those who applied not "up to 7%".

Numbers are allocated according to geographical area (AS, AF, EU etc.) AND 'proportional' to the population of that area.

Now the catch is...for AS for ex., when you take out India, Pakistan and China nothing much is left for a population !!. So, comparatively (or proportionally) few 'opportunities' for AS from the initial total of 100k!! (out of that Bangla & Nepal get more 'cos more ppl apply to e-DV from there.....basic laws of probability in play here)

However in the end, no one country would get more than 7% of 55k (~3850).
Lately this has never happened, 'cos the 55k is never filled. So who ever who is 'lucky' enough is assured of a visa by Sept. 30th.
