How 485 is picked up for approval?

Hi Guys

I need you help to validate my logic of how INS picks up 485 application for processing.

As per my logic, 485 applications are picked up in order

485 Receipt Date -> State you belong to->FP results received.

The only difference from all other theory is that of FP Result received.

This is based on my observation about approval. For example, I have friend whose RD and FP date(FP taken) is same from same state (NJ). Luckily, my friend got his FP done electronically (his and his wife ) while My wife's FP was done manually. Because of manual FP, my wife's result were received almost 2 weeks later than the electronics one. My Friends 485 is approved last week and I am hoping to get mine approved in 2-3 weeks time(as FP Result has a difference of 2 weeks).

I do have some logical reason for this assumption. As your FP Results are put into your file, your file is put back in back and hence will be picked up later.

What do you think? If you guys agree with me, we can ask greaty-k to include column on rupnet to include FP Result received (latest one in case of family).

Thanks

My take on this is that state does not matter . Seems like FP date has no effect as well because the way 485s are approved in last few months have random FP dates.

I would like to pinpoint few things part of I-485 process:

1) Your Biographic Data: This data needs to be validated in two ways: If you entered country less than a year ago, then a query is sent to your home country consulate to verify your data. Else, your data is verified by FBI/CIA.
My guess is this is the part that changes everything for most of the people because time might vary greatly from person to person.

2) Order in which FPs are handled. If files after FP are put in FIFO or LIFO

3) where your file stuck in the pile at officers desk.

BTW, INS tries to keep the file for spouses together if filed together.

I think, you misunderstood me. I am not talking about FP Date, but stressing upon when your FP Results are received. Thats the key. As I mentioned, mine and my friends family had FP On same date, but there is a difference of 2 weeks in FP Results received by INS.

And state do matter (whether you agree or not). I have seen thread here stating that there are hardly any NY approvals. I also know that one of my friend from NY got his approval late and he also observed the same behaviour.

My guess

The officer stacks his cases on his desk and lets his parrot out of the cage. The parrot then retrieves the file that he will work on for that day! In effect determine the fortune of the person!

According to a manual that was on the net, the files are collected in a working area and are then distributed to the officers based on load distribution. There is really no logic but the manual mentions that they are staged chronologically by PD, preference category (Ebs) and country.

Hope that helps.

I think it is according to RD. My theory is: 485 applications with the same RD month (not the date) were distributed one time to adjunction officers (say 100). The processing speed then is largely depended on the officer who handles your case. If your case is in the hand of an experienced, senior officer, you are probably in good hand and if your case is a straightforward one, you will get a direct approval with no RFEs. In addition, even if you do get a RFE, when he get the reply back, you will be approved in 2-3 weeks. However, if your case was at the hand of an unexperienced, newly trained officer, chances are, it will take much longer time and maybe even for a straightforward case, you will get RFEs. This can also explain why some cases with RDs Oct.20s got approved before RDs Oct 5s.

My 2 cents.
