I know that when on H-1B status you cannot receive payments from anyone besides your employer, and that includes honorariums. I'm a professor at a university, and I have many invitations to give lectures by various organizations. Usually what I do is to have those organizations who invite me to pay the university and then the university pays me.
Is that OK? In that way, my employer is the only one who pays me.
