This has to be weird. I am going to Germany next wednesday with a RTD that expires on August 10th. So I said I will apply for a new one while I still have the old one...since I need to travel in September again to Germany.

So I sent an overnight application for RTD on May 10th with a letter on USPS letter head saying that I need to travel in September also. And weirdddddddd, I got an email today that RTD has been mailed...

What the hell?? RTD in a week??

I have 2 valid documents again! hehe funny as hell..!

When you don't need it they mail it right away

I am supposed to be traveling on May 30, and I applied on april 2nd, that is crazy. two years ago I applied if I need it just in case and I got it in 3 weeks now I am waiting almost 2 months.
MY RTD was still valid I should not have mailed the old one back.

Applied for REP on 5/12, and seeing daily LUDs. I did include a request to expedite in the "information about proposed travel" field.

Hopefully I will get it soon as well :-)

what do you say? You dont send the old one back and get the new one. WHat do you say inside the Application?
Is it right to do it this way or not?
Dont you have to send the other one back/
Thanks

Nas,

I kept the old one since I am travelling next week to Germany & Switzerland. I sent another application since usually it takes 3 months to get another one and I needed to travel end of august/early sept again.

In the application, I wrote for my reasons of keeping the old one and also attached my travel schedule for USPS(where I work now). It showed that I would travel to Germany at Siemens for 1 week in August/September & then also in October. It's an offical USPS travel schedule that is posted on our Intranet by our Managers.

My travel next week is for personal vacation.

I also kept my RTD (valid until Dec 7 .06) because the instructions say something like "same document cant be issued unless the old one is expired or returned. As I applied for REP instead of RTD, I think it shold be OK. So far, no notice asking for the old one back..

Could someone clear this info for me please - I thought that after receiving a greencard asylee should use a different document(the 2 year parole travel doc) instead of the RTD. I read somewhere on this forum that an RTD application got denied because the person's greencard had already been approved?

Nope--you can get either, and in theory, can have both at the same time.

Floyd.

1) If you win asylum in any country, by 1951 Geneva Convention, the country is supposed to issue you a Travel Document to travel. That is true in every country that you win asylum from...The standard was light blue color but U.S Changed it and all other countries still use a light blue document. It doesn't matter if you become a PR or whatever, by UN conventions, you are entitled to this document.

2) And you are entitled to a Rentry Permit because U.S law allows you to have one since you have a GC.

Item #1 is per United Nations, Item #2 is per the country rules(in this case United States).

You are entitiled to both since #1 & #2 are valid for you thats why. There is nothing to be confused about.

So u got the RTD within a wk after u apply?
That's awesome!
I have a question regarding the photos that you suppose to submit with the application. Do they take the new style photo(like the one in the Working Permit) or they only take the old style(which show ur ear and everything)?
For those of u who live in GA,do u know where can I get my photos taken??

New Photos ONLY.

Where in Georgia? If you are in Atlanta there are plenty of places for this. Drive around Bufford Highway.
