hi!!!
I am currently using F-1, but also in the pending of Green card. (family base)

I am wondering, while my green card is pending, do I still need to be a full time student? or a student at all? can I stop going to school before I receive my Green card? can I move away from school legally?

Also, before I receive Authorized of Emplyeement Document (EAD) can I work? but not getting paid? Can I work for free?
Or...can I work at all?

thank you,
sincerely,

Once you file for AOS you can legally stay in the US regardless of status, i.e. you can leave school. Your F-1 is no longer valid once you file AOS I believe.

As for your work question, you can do volunteer work while you wait for EAD, but you can't "work for free", i.e. you can't do a job that someone would be getting paid for if you weren't doing it for free. In other words you can't take a job for no pay, on the basis that they will start paying you when you get your EAD. However if you want to voluteer for a charity, you can do that.
