Hello Everyone,

I heard that once you go for your fingerprinting you can take the test as well provided everything went well with the fingerprinting. Since the FP is done electronically and if the response from FBI does not come out positive then they can refuse for you to take the test the same day. Is that true? Please shed some light.

Taking the civics test at the same time as FP is location and time dependent. As far as I know, there are relatively few places that offer it, with one of them being Wheaton in MD, and even then you have to be there on a day when someone is available to administer the exam.

That's interesting but inconsistent with my understanding. I thought that civics/history test was always part of the interview and that since 2006 the latter is never scheduled/conducted until FP check & namecheck was complete, usually several months. Not true ???????

Ah, well like I said, taking civics during the FP process is not available at many locations. Maybe Baltimore is running some sort pilot program?

From what I understand of the process, if available, you will be asked during the FP whether you want to take the civics test. If you do, you will usually have to wait a while (an hour or so), get an opportunity to study the answers, and then take a written test in a group setting. Those that pass are given a document saying as much, and those that fail can simply retake the test verbally during interview. I don't believe there is any repercussion of either declining or failing the test when administered in that manner. Look on it as an extra bonus if you're willing to wait the extra time involved.
