Now I am planning to visit India for 3 weeks in Dec/Jan. Is it ok to travel or still I can have a problem coming back on my stamping?? Anybody has a same experience? Any suggestions highly appreciated....Thank you...

I got my I-551 stamp and travelled to India before getting the physical Green card.

When I departed from Los Angeles - the airline counter was satisfied when I showed them the I-551 stamp.

When I reached India - they dont check for the I-551 or GC

when I left India the immigration officer was satisfied with the I-551 stamp.

On Arrival at Los Angeles I was asked to go to section one and the Immigration officer asked me my social security number, date of birth and my mother's maiden name which he confirmed from his system and was satisfied.

No problem at all.

My wife returned 3 weeks after I reached and she also had no problems whatsoever.

It is okay so long as you do not leave USA for more than 6 months and also the validity of the I-551 stamp has not expired.

I hope this answers your question.

Do u need any other docs?

Thank you very much for your replies...I have some more questions.
(1) Do u need a employment letter or W2 or anything else when you travel on 551 stamp to India?
(2) Do u need to go to Consulate in India?
(3) I have stamped passport and approval notice. Are those enough?
(4) RSRGC -Which airport in India u travelled to. I am planning to go to Bombay airport.

Thanks again...
