Hi Everyone, :)
I hope everyone is having a wonderful day, and I hope someone on here can clear up a few things for me. I am new here so I'm not sure if it is okay to post this here, but it does say "Any topic"...so here it goes.

My parents, my sister and I are planning on going to India in July. Both my sister and I are U.S. born so obtaining a visa shouldn't be too hard for us but its my parents I'm worried about.

My mother became a citizen in 2000, and my dad became one in 1995. The problem is that they never surrendered their citizenship or canceled their old Indian passports. They have gone to India a few times after they became citizens but ONLY used their U.S. passports, the Indian Passports have just been collecting dust. They were never bothered with surrendering certificates and such before but this time it has become an issue. I read up on this matter on the consulate website but I'm still confused. I understand there is a $175 processing fee, but the other penalties listed are confusing me, do any of them apply to my parents? :(

I would post the url to the Indian consulate with the penalties, but I'm not allowed to yet. :(

I've tried calling the number they have listed for Visa inquiries but they haven't been very helpful at all. I'm sorry if my questions are silly but I'm just really concerned that my parents will have to pay large fees and wont get their visa in on time :( Can anyone here clear up any matters for me please?
Please and thank you, have a nice day everyone :)

Really? No other penalties? I hope that is true! :) I'm just concerned because the website says that "Indian passport retained without cancellation beyond 3 years subsequent to acquiring foreign nationality" is a penalty of 250$. Since my dad and mom became citizens in 1995 and 2000 respectively, I thought they would have to pay extra?
I come under the New York Office of the Indian Consulate.

:) Thank you so much for clearing this up for me, I've been getting so much conflicting information! Thank You!!!!!! :) :) :)
