If I get the PCC from Indian Consulate in US (in My case NY), do we still need to get PCC from local Indian police and regional passport office? I think we should not as speciced in IMMIHELP.COM.

Just double cheking .. any opinion?

I also need the same information. Please help.

If the local PCC required from India, is there any format available?

thanks

I was told the same thing by Mumbai consulate. But I have not seen anything official from them yet. Do you know if there is anything in writing from them?

eb1seeker: I haven\'t seen anything in writing to this effect, however,...

if you read the discussions on this site you can deduce that PCC from CGNY is sufficient if you live in the US.

$$$$$ see message below which I had written to Chief passport officer$$$$$$$$$$$

Sir I am presently based in USA and working out here on a work visa.
Recently USA has started asking for Police clearance certificate for persons who wish to become immigrants I had stayed in New Delhi till 1998 before moving to USA.
What is the process to get a Police clearance certificate in New Delhi, India ? Do I have to submit my original passport at time of application.?
What are the documents required to be submitted along with the application ?
Is Police clearance certificate issued the same day ?
An early response would be appreciated

Yes, Mumbai consulate confirmed thu e-mail

I got email from Mumbai consulate saying that if you are currently living in USA then PCC from nearest indian consulate in enough.

Second thing I come to know from this forum that You can\'t go and get PCC from local Police station directly. Local Police station acn issue PCC if asked by some other authority like RPO.

So bottom line is you can only get PCC from RPO/Indian Consulate.

I too received email from Mumbai consulate saying PCC from Indian consulate in US is enough.

But Packet 4 says two are required and I will try to get both.
Good luck

Yes you need to get the clearance letter from the nearest Indian Consulate or Embassy in the U.S. and nothing from Indian side.

Hi,

Thank You very much for your reply.

However, since I am staying in the US right now, the local police station in India as well as the Regional passport office in India are refusing to give the PCC and are asking me to apply for the PCC at the Indian Consulate in New York.

I have already applied for the PCC at the Indian Consulate in New York.

The officials at the Indian Consulate, New York told me that when I apply for a PCC at New York, the Indian Consulate forwards the enquiry to the Passport office in India which issued my Passport as well as my local police station and ONLY after they get clearance from these two, will they issue me the PCC.

So, in the light of this, will the PCC issued by the Indian Consulate here in New York be enough?

Please advice.

Regards.

Hi,
I am expecting a Consular Interview for my Employment Based Immigrant Visa
sometime in January/February. My case number is #############.
I have not stayed in any other country except India and the United States.
Now, would I need to get a Police Clearance document when I come for my
interview?
Your website says that people like me do not require a police clearance
certificate. However, I heard from a friend of mine that a notice has been
put up at your consulate saying that from January 2002, all Immigrant Visa
applicants need to get 2 police clearances when they attend the interview.
Please advice.
Regards.
