Here w/green card -- now son wants to come for high school

Hello:

I have been working and living in the U.S. since 1998, first on a TN, then an H1B, and for the past several months with a green card (based on marriage to a U.S. citizen). My two sons used to live with me here in the U.S. during the TN and H1B days, but moved to Canada when I divorced their biological mother. One of my sons is now interested in living with me and with his step-family for the years of high school -- no strong sense of what his plans are beyond that. My wife and I are, of course, taxpayers. My son has a SSN from when he lived here previously.

My question is -- is there any way for my son to live with us for the years of high school, without going through the extensive green card process for him? It appears, from what I've read, that there is little option for him to stay on a student visa (and none at all beyond one year). Are there other options? If the only option is to apply for a green card, would there be any chance of having him far enough along in the process to be able to attend this coming September? We want him to come, but are not sure we want to spend thousands of dollars on what may end up being an experiment.

Your advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Brian
