Hello, everybody!

I have the following problem: I received the first envelope for DV with CN 2008EU17XXX.
I am now in US with a work contract (J1 Visa/212E) and as far as I know, from DV forums, I should apply for the Waiver. If I apply for the Waiver, the company that hired me will not be to happy. They will fire me and I will lose my visa (that happened with others that applied for the Waiver). My big question is what can I do not to lose this chance to receive the GC? I already sent the first envelope, and I chose the place of the intervew in my home country (just in case they fire me and I have to go back home).

Please tell me what can be the best move I could make right now? Is there anybody that has the same problem? What is your plan?

I'm waiting for a response...please...

Thank you!

Assess the probabilities

Hi tuca.
Your position is pretty tough. Your number was very high in 06 but it is current in June this year (unless you are from Ukraine). Nobody knows what will happen next year I guess it can go either way. I think I would not quit (or get fired) just yet. Try to find out what the chances of you getting a waiver are. Those waivers tend to be tricky and you can end up loosing your job and then not qualifying for CG because of a denied waiver. In summary, I would apply for a waiver only if I knew there was a high chance of getting it and also if there was a high chance of my number being current on time. On the first one you may have to ask your country embassy or other people that applied, on the second one I guess you will have more information when the 2008 final results are released in September or October this year. Sorry and good luck!
