Help with visas needed!

I've posted this on another forum but hoped someone here might be able to help me further...

I'm 25 and graduating from university next month with a degree in Film and television studies with American studies and I want to get a job in the US. I'm English and my degree is from an English university and because of this I was told that I don't qualify for OPT as that is only for people who have studied at an American university which I didn't.

I want to get a job either in journalism or the film or television industry and I had a look on various websites and don't think I qualify for an H1B visa either as that is not in the list of occupations listed.

Can anyone suggest anything? I'd really appreciate any help with this! Thanks :)

Thank you Joe. The website I found said that it had to be a speciality occupation and listed scientific, medical and business occupations and didn't say anything about media related ones so I just assumed it had to be in the areas listed.

Do you know if a 3year BA (hons) degree from the UK is equivelent to a 4 year US one? Its a Bachelor of Arts so I would think it is?

Should I just write to companies asking if they had jobs and if they would sponsor me? You say I would have to wait until Oct 1. Is that because it takes that long to arrange the visa or because that is when the H1B visa year begins?

Thank you so much for your help Joe. I really appreciate it. :)

One last thing though, is it only graduate level jobs that can be applied for on an H1? I saw an ad for a production assistant which I think was entry level so do you think that would be ok?
