Help with PERM

Dear All,

I need some expert guidance regarding a dilemma that I am facing right now :

I have been employed with company X , filed GC in 2003 and the application is currently in Dallas BEC -- with no status right now. This is my 6'th Year (H1b) and it expires in March 2006. I have recieved an email from my attorney asking whether I want to convert to PERM, the issue is with the Risks associated which I think are far too great. I am therefore thinking of the following :

I continue with my application as it is (without losing my PD) and have a consulting company (who I know) -- to apply for my H1-B transfer and GC filing (thru PERM), What I am concerned about is -- will this PERM application be considered independent of my Original application or will the filing of this PERM app invalidate the original one. Both the apps are from different regions. I have read in places on the forums that there can be multiple filings, but does that apply to in my case at all ?

In the end, I am thinking..If I get PERM Labor certified before my original app, I can move to the consulting comp and continue my process there, if not I still have my original going..

Your responses are greatly appreciated. Please also let me know if there is any aspect I am failing to consider..

Thanks,
