Hi
I came to US on October 1997 as a student and stayed until 2004 with my visa.
I overstayed my Visa around 2004 and got arrested by immigration officer on 2005.
They put me in a detention center for 8 days and during that time I applied for an asylum based on my ethnicity.
I got out with bail bond and while my case was going on, i got married with my fiancee who was an American Citizen and got my Green Card on 2006.
And 2009 i got the 10 year green card - it expires on 2019
We got divorced last year and I am not sure if i am eligable for US citizenship.
I saw on the immigration website that
--------------------------------------------------
Effect of Removal Proceedings
If you have been ordered removed, you are
no longer eligible for naturalization. Your
naturalization application also cannot be
approved if a removal proceeding is pending
against you. These restrictions apply to all
naturalization applicants, except for those
who are eligible for naturalization based on
service in the Armed Forces.
--------------------------------------------------
I am not sure what was my status back than - during the asylum case if i was ordered to be removed or not.
How can i find that out?
I cant reach my old attorney, it was in another state.
Also if i got deported would i be able to get my green card?
any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ms
