Help With A Citizenship Issue

can i apply for my citizenship before satisfying the 5 yr minimumrequired to acheive citizenship status? someone told me that i could file my application 6months in advance prior to meeting the 5 yr test (i.e. i would have my green card for 4 and 1/2 years)? is this true or do i have to wait; i'm trying to beat the fee increase. thanx in advance.

NB: i seached the forum and didnt find a thread about this.

Bull,

Some information is wrong, especially the 6 months before the 5yr anniversary. :)

The only exception is this:you are married to a US citizen spouse for three yrs. Then you can apply for your GC anytime after 3 yrs. If you aren't married to your US spouse, then you will apply on 4yrs 9 months. :rolleyes:

visit the greencard and naturalization forum. It is a well of resources.

thanks for the info but actually i'm not married neither am i planning to, i just want to upgrade my status to a citizen ASAP before the new fees kick in. next october will make five years since i'm here so you are telling me that i can file in august 2007 (3 months b4 my 5 year anniversary)? i was searching for this info but couldnt find it so please confirm if i can file 4yrs 9months. respect and bless.

It is 90 days before you meet the continuous resident requirement. If you want verification, you can look at the bottom of the 22nd page of Citizenship Guide: http://www.uscis.gov/files/article/M-476.pdf.
