help!! USCIS final approval of J1 waiver

Hi everybody,

I got a favorable recommendation from DOS for the J1 waiver on June 11th and I havent got anything yet from USCIS. My question is, did I have to send an application or anything else to USCIS?
As I understood it DOS sends directly to USCIS the favorable recommendation so I just have to wait for the final approval from USCIS right?

I need this waiver as soon as possible so I'm kind of worried that it's taking so long...

Could you share what type of j1 waiver is yours. Also have you changed your address while your application is pending? I dont know if you have your receipt number? If not call USCIS customer service number and talk to them. They will provide you with receipt number and you can check your status in the website. Your case is beyond 4 weeks,so they should be able to tell.800 375 5283
Thats the number you need to call.
Because i am also waiting for USCIS approval.Mine reached there only on july 31.

I just called USCIS and they told me I should allow 90 days until they have a receipt number for me, so they say i have to wait until 11th Septmeber!!

I applied for a J1 waiver because I won the green card lottery and I need the waiver before the interview which will be in October.

Did you send any applications to USCIS? or you just did the whole process through DOS?

Mine went through DOS. But at anycase you should get the receipt number. I dont know you can try another time. Some one else will reply different,and may be able to help you.
 
you don't need the final approval to change status or apply for a green card. you can do what ever you want except leaving the US with the notice that you have
 
I do need the USCIS final approval since I'm getting the green card through an interview in the USA embassy in my country (If I applied through USCIS for the green card I know I can just use the DOS letter, but for several reasons i'm doing it in my country).

Also, I just travelled outside USA and nothing happened...

I called several times to USCIS and they keep telling me the same, that i have to wait for 90 days since they have too many applications..hope they hurry up...

anyway my main concern is if i had to something through USCIS or just wait..

Regarding the final decision from USCIS, I'm just curious to know if anybody has any idea how they make their decision? Because from what I read here it seems some people got their final decision after 2 weeks and some other have waited for 2-3 months and haven't got it yet!!!
What's the deal? Is it based on the statement of reason for waiver or something else?

you should definitely be able to get the receipt number from USCIS. Just keep calling them. DOS has sent the recommendation for my case to USCIS on August 1. and I got my receipt number by calling them. First couple times I called them they told me I have to wait for 120 days to get the receipt number!! I guess it's just the matter of get a hold of the right person!!!! Keep trying.

time line for hrr waiver

Hi All, I am new to this forum - I recently got a HRR waiver and it was forwarded from the DOS to USCIS in end Feb 2007 and we got the approval notice in early June 2007. From my understanding once the DOS sends a favorable recommendation, it is pretty much a done deal, but it can take up to 4 months. Good luck - its tough waiting!
